We Want Counter Strike Source Servers Back!

II'll just leave this here:
http://www.vaultf4.com/threads/cs-go.186/

which summarises the current situation and reasons CSS/CSGO are currently offline. You've probably seen it already, but for reference for anyone else interested in this thread.

tl;dr: I'm game for a CSS/CSGO server if there's enough community interest/involvement in making it a success.

:)

Ahh, well as much as I would love to see this all come back, I must admit that I no longer am able to provide support for you guys. I don't play games much any more at all, though I will say that the FFN CSS servers were always killer and the only reason I played it for so long.

If this isnt coming back, then there was no reason for me to join.
Ergo i could have provide some donation, but if itsn't coming back....
...No reason.. = )

Three people do not a full server make.

Sorry if it sounds harsh, but per our "open honesty with the community effort" here is the cold truth: I need a lot more community interest and commitment than this to even consider bringing them back. It's just not worth the time and effort involved if I have no support that the server will not end up a ghost town.
Then there's the fact the community completely balked when we asked for help in getting them configured properly (both CSS and CSGO when we had them). It doesn't exactly instill me with confidence when I have a group of people cheering "Let's put up/fix server X", and I say "OK, sure. Can you guys help me configure it how you want it?" and all I hear is crickets in the deafening silence.
Like everyone else here I have a life outside this community, and while I'd like to spend all my time here running the servers and making VF4 even more awesome, it is a volunteer job and takes a back seat to real life things. TF2/the site already takes up the majority of my spare time, and I hope you can understand I don't want to risk letting those go to pot because I'm focusing on learning the intricacies of a new game server that may or may not be a success. We've come close to that in the past before I came on board, and I'll be damned if I let that happen while I'm in charge, especially after all the effort I put into getting us on the road to recovery from the state FFN was in when I came on board as lead developer.

So, my answer is still the same as it was before:
If someone is willing to make the time investment and put a proper, working CSS/CSGO server config in my hands (and I mean an actual.cfg file and any dependencies, not just a list of "oh, you need X,Y and Z" leaving me to search and figure the details out myself), I'll take it and gladly put up a trial server to see how it fills. This at least eliminates the time burden so I have a solid, low-maintenance launching point for the server that doesn't require me to spend time I don't really have.

tl;dr: If the community is willing to commit, so will I.

Hmm Well with Moo_d and Mj and I know Van would help he messages me about this constantly.. Maybe the 4 of us can see about spreading the word to our old friends.

I hate to ruin the spirit here, but I am simply not interested in putting in the effort because I have pretty much moved on. I would play regularly if it existed, but I don't think I would put much effort into them.

If you guys can pull it off, that would be great.

Just a couple more observations on this thread / sharing my thoughts:
Looking at moo's comments, I suspect that more people feel the same way. It'd be less of an issue if I already had and/or was familiar with CSS server setup and could put one together in an hour or so. (Googling for a config generator yields some results, but I have no way of knowing whether they are any good - that takes someone with CSS experience) Then there's still the issue of getting it from stock to how you guys would like it configured - and that is really where a lot of time is lost, and not something I can do without community input! People tire of the "I made changes, is it fixed yet" fairly quickly, not realizing that a good server is a road of constant monitoring and tweaks... not just "set and forget", or "change everything and still not know what setting caused the problem". I probably spend more time mucking around the back end of the TF2 and web servers than I do playing in them, and for the most part it goes unnoticed, because people tend only to notice when things aren't working properly ;)

I completely understand where Vintage is coming from. I have only dealt with a few smaller servers over the years, but even though are a pain in the ass and require way more of your time than anyone realizes. It would be neat to have a CS server (although I am the WORST CS player any of you have ever encountered), hopefully you guys can get some of your old crew together and work something out. It is always nice to have game variety as long as it is not in excess of what a community can practically maintain.

Despite what I may have said earlier, I am willing to help, but not in depth at all. If you need me to check a few things, or help work out the mechs of a few things- I can do that. But I was just trying to say that I won't be able to do full time help or support.

The problem I see with this is your TF2 servers need support this is more support than you have willing community for. If you barely have support for all the TF2 servers theres really no point in moving forward with another game at this time.

I am pleased to announce that thanks to the efforts of mjosenius and his buddy kurtz, we have launched a CS:S casual server. If it takes off, we will look at adding a gungame server.

Right now it's just barebones + sourcebans + hlstats + warmup round plugin. If all is well, I'll look into adding some supporter perks.

Let me know if there are any issues... if not, we'll make it official and have a launch announcement.

Gungame is just... yes. I loved that shit so much. I want it... I really want it... I mean... I want to fuck it riding off into the sunset on a rainbow farting unicorn.

Actually, on second thought, I should probably avoid fucking the baby of PJ. That could be bad.

FastDL fixed. See my comments in my initial post regarding gungame.
