Hi folks,
This is something that I'm interested in testing out as a possible "anonymous suggestion box".

It can be found in the 'Announcements' category, direct link is here
http://www.vaultf4.com/forums/the-suggestion-box.68/

The idea is that it will give you a place to post suggestions, comments, criticisms, etc for review by operators in an anonymous way - that is, nobody else will be able to see what you post, except for operators, who will be able to reply to your posts. It's also intended to be less personal/in-your-face than a PM or a steam chat with someone, so it will be a place to put ideas, no matter how trivial.

PLEASE NOTE that posting actual suggestions there is probably not advisable until permissions are confirmed, unless you don't mind the possibility of having everyone see them. ;)

I will need your folks' help in making sure I've got the permissions set up correctly before we launch this. Please try making a test post in that forum. I'll reply to your test post; please verify the following

1. You CANNOT see threads started by other people
2. You CAN see your own threads
3. You CAN see replies to your own thread and reply to your own thread.

Thanks! (Once we get permissions verified, I'll make a more detailed post as to the intentions/functions of this forum.

There's no such thing as a trivial suggestion.

Also, suggestions should be public. I suggest that the forum only be used for anonymous complaints. If there's anything I've learned in my business courses, innovation thrives from teamwork. One person coming up with an idea is good, but if you have that idea shown to tons of people then it may inspire someone else that can build on that idea and make it even better.

All the truly great innovative companies do it. IDEO has a huge white board in their office where employees write down an idea, then other employees write down negative things that can poke holes in the theory, things they like about it, and things they can add to it. Google does the same thing. Employees start projects on an internal server that shows them as circles. Other employees can review them, add to them or criticize them, and can join in on projects they like. The big wigs at the top can see in a visual graph what ideas are getting the most attention.

Even just doing something as simple as looking up at the sky at a cloud may inspire you. The cloud's shape may look like something and give you a new way of looking at a problem (The Eureka! effect). So suggestions and comments should be visible to everyone if you really want to have the best effect on its utility.

Complaints should stay private.

I know a lot of you probably think I'm retarded, but I'm being serious about this.

i've used my super duper brain skills and visited the forums on a different browser without being logged in and I saw this in the suggestion thread "
Test Post - If you see this, I've borked things up!

"

Thank you, should be fixed.

To address your earlier comments, I completely agree suggestions should be public. My intent here is to provide an anonymous area where they can be submitted for various reasons. Unless there's an outstanding reason not to, we'll make a public thread for them. Some people may not like having people know that they made a controversial suggestion or something they like but think might be percieved as stupid/silly - and we can then anonymize it before putting it out for comments.
