Okay... so my stepdad finally offered me an old desktop we have laying around. two things though, 1 I need a monitor(We have one sitting around also so that's covered.) 2. It needs a new video card as the current one is dead. So, I need a decent video card, that can at least run hi-res graphics, (Love me them great quality games) but I do have a budget being a poor college student that will start working 12 hours shifts on Friday. Any suggestions?

More details on the machine, please? it would suck to send a card that doesn't work.

derp.. been talking to a cute girl all day, and forgot... I'll need to open it up tomorrow to go through it all... it was a custom build he did but it is a recent computer.

//Ignore this line. as it is a comment

Can we get a price range too? Poor college student is a little unspecific.

My girlfriend is running a GTX 560 and she can run most games flawlessly (and streams them) you can see here. I'm running a GTX 670 that is overclocked slightly, and I can run games like Guild Wars 2 max settings with over 100 FPS. Tf2 runs over 300 FPS on 2fort bridge. Skyrim max settings including depth of field with zero hiccups even in high traffic parts like the dragon introduction.

The 560 can probably do something close to that. Whichever you pick, I would try to pick one up during cyber monday. Could shave 100 dollars or something. Like Razer said, you would need a sufficient power supply and other checks on hardware so you won't bottle up anywhere.

I use a GTX 460, and if my memory serves, the 560 is just the next gen of that card. Those have had a great price for the performance they yield. Always one of the better cards to recommend for someone on a budget. Just understand you won't be able to max out everything on grapically intense games...but it isn't so bad that Skyrim looks like Minecraft.

I highly recommend the GTX 560Ti cards. Good performance (people have indicated the 560 is good too), and it's relatively cheap. I saw a good PNY one going on Newegg for $150 earlier in the week.

Huh, couldn't edit my last post, but here's the card in question. Damn good price:

I run this with a i5 2500k and 16 gigs of RAM on a Z68 Maximus IV Gene-Z board and I can kick the crap out of everything. Can you give us some more info on the computer in question, too? No point in tossing in a 560Ti if your processor or RAM end up being a bottleneck.

foxconn dg33m03 is the mother board...

The video card that is being replaced is a VT 4650 PCIe 512MB

for a price range I'd like to keep it within $250.

I'd definitely lean towards the GTX 560Ti. Good bang for the buck. Invest the extra dollars in more RAM or something.

I've been looking at new GFX cards lately and have been interested in both the 560Ti and the sliightly more expensive 660. Anyone have opinions on the 660?
