The title is pretty much self-explanatory, however I will break this down.

The Vault F4 Staff would like the community's general opinion on signature sizes. You are welcome to post your opinions here, but please vote in the poll for the actual decision. You can either vote for Staff to implement an established rule for signature dimensions, OR you can choose the option for Staff to deal with problematic signatures on an individual basis. If the latter option is put into effect, community members will have the ability to message a member of Staff with a concern about a signature, which will then be addressed accordingly.

**Note: Content rules STILL APPLY to signatures regardless!**

I hope mine isn't too bad. Lumberjack made it for me back in the day.

id say individual basis would be best as say some sigs might be a bit bigger then normal due to it being an awesome picture that you cant shrink anymore then you already did yet with guidelines someone could tell that person to change it as in the end some day someone takes a guideline as a rule sooner or later where as if say the signature is say really big(eg quote onto quote and so forth or pictures that break the layout) then you could just tell them to change it if it really goes to far yet if say its a few quotes from a convo long since forgotten then it would be nice to be able to keep that

and that prob didnt make much sense but id say that individual basis would be a lot better due to all that can be put in a signature

    Ahem, and I quote,
No seriously don't cut them down or enforce any rules. Do it on an individual basis if someone's sig is obnoxiously annoying or big. If there's a sig someone doesn't like they can get Ad Block or Grease Monkey and a content filter to filter out specific sigs like I do.

We posted this poll so we can get a general feel for how the community feels about signature rules. This was discussed staff-side, and really, we want to be ready for the issue IF/WHEN it comes up, so we have something to point at when people ask us why there is an issue.

I voted for set rules. IF we leave things up to individual basis, then people are going to end up thinking that we're targeting specific people, oppressing people, stifling "free speech", etc. a set rule alleviates a lot of that, and leaves something that can be enforced without bias.

I'm going to leave this poll up until the end of the week. By Monday, we will have guidelines in place. If you want to be heard, now's the time to do it!

CorruptDictator I want a custom title, but I dont trust VintagePC

Most forums I have been involved with do have set rules for sigs usually consisting of a dimension limit for images and a character limit for text. In places where there have been no such rules I have only seen it lead to problems in the long run including, but not limited to, accusations of being singled out or disliked, favoritism issues and pointless arguments between members of the community in question.

Yeah. Unless you have specific, transparent rules, or are choosing in advance not to disallow anything, you are setting the moderators up for grief. Animations? Maximum dimensions? Maximum size? Discouraged content? Probably should decide all those things sooner, rather than later.

  10. I'm for Individual checks because as a signature designer.
I want as much freedom as I can with my wonderful work.
If I need to downsize to meet a guideline sure thing but if I have to redo the whole thing then there gonna be problems.
Guidelines should only be used when things get out of control like an +18 Signature that shows gore, nude and annoying stuff or when you have a large community and you can't keep track of everyone at once.

    So what's the verdict?

The general consensus is to have established signature guidelines. When I get back from the store in a bit I will update the forum rules thread with the signature guidelines. Thank you all for voting!
