Yeah The people at Dragons Gate obviously didn't read the handbook or they decided to make a really simple matter super complicated because they wanted to be rule nazis and only do things with rules as written not as intended...

Page 12 of the PF Core Rulebook:
"A creature gains maximum hit points if its first Hit Die roll is for a character class level. Creatures whose first Hit Die comes from an NPC class or from his race roll their first Hit Die normally."

And then again on page 15 of the PF Core Rulebook:
"A level 1 character begins with maximum hit points for its Hit Die roll."

I have never once seen anywhere that you don't start with max HP for a PC at 1st level.

SRD entry on hit points.

EDIT: there's a page three in this thread lol

I figured I would share some of the backstory I wrote up for Orin.

Orin son of Thudu comes from the barrier mountains within Katapesh. Thudu son of Duli, raised Thudu to with the aim to inherent his brewing company. However, Orin's brief stint at brewing, served only to wet his beat for alchemy. Orin soon began traveling around Katapesh and Osirion. Making his way through brewing, in search of alchemical knowledge. Hearing of the soon to be open necropolis. Orin has travelled to Wati, in search ancient alchemical secrets.

Orin is a bit of a social recluse. It's not so much that he shy's away from people. More that they shy away from his gruffness. What he lacks in congeniality he makes up for in his zeal and conviction in his studies. Both of Alchemy and Biology.

The question has been asked about down time for crafting items. After completing your first tomb, you will be assigned 2 more, but only 1 at a time. You can take up to a day off between tombs for downtime things. I personally think the crafting system in PF is useless, so I would allow more time to craft. For each single day off you can either take 3 days of crafting or craft 1 item that takes upto a week. After the first book you'll have a few days in a row, at which point you can either take 14 days of crafting, or craft 1 item that takes upto a month.

The time off between necropolis sites is entirely optional however as you can set off the next day for the next site.

Now that's exciting. Will we not bother with craft checks then?

For anybody that likes a little more flavor, this story was added to the end of first book of the campaign. It's a nice short story (about 5 pages) it does have a small tie in, to the campaign. Though it's mostly backstory on a character you won't meet just yet, and if you don't want to read it, you won't miss anything. It does have a drawing of the Tooth and Hookah, and a bit more description of the inn as well. This is part 1 of 6, and if you enjoy it, I'll continue to drop the story as the campaign goes on.

Code:
/me swings at his foe!
&{template:default} {{name=Heavy Mace}} {{attack vs AC=[[1d20+?{modifier|2}]]}} {{damage = [[1d8+?{modifier}]]}}{{type= Blunt,1d8}}

There is also the black one that grognak has is pf_attack I think. For template name.

Before heading back to the inn. Orin will attempt to purchase a dagger, and prepare some bandages. Once he's ready, and alone. He will disfigure his forehead, to be even more unsightly. To the extent that the script "thief" is no longer recognizable.

Idessa heads over to the Grand Mausoleum and mosies around to see if any collectors or historians would be interested in acquiring rare, ancient artifacts or records, or if anyone knows where to find such people, then goes off to purchase some extra mundane supplies and snoop around for cheap, discreet, more-or-less permanent lodging available in the Midwife district.

General: As you make your way around Wati, you hear rumor's that Valery from the Scorched Hand is buying drinks at the Tooth and Hookah for any adventurers who went into the Necropolis. It seems a large number of people are taking her up on her offer and will be exchanging stories of what they found today.

Orin: As you walk around the marketplace you see several shops carrying daggers, at the first shop the merchant eye's the scarf on your forehead and the spots of blood slowly seeping through and turns you away. A few stalls down a half-drunk shopkeeper prepares to sell you the dagger for 2gp when a Dwarf walks up to you and says "I think what you need more than a knife is discretion, get to Getwahb's Tarworks down in the veins if your interested. Old Getwahb is in the import/export business if you catch my meaning." It is widely known that Getwahb Zet (N, Male, dwarf, expert) owns Getwahb's Tarworks, which is the largest structure in the veins. However even though his building is at the docks his business officially process's wood into tar, charcoal, and wood alcohol, which actually has very little to do with import/export. Getwahb is known as the richest person in Wati.

Idessa: At the Grand Mausoleum you see a great many artifacts that have been "seized" by the Church of Pharasma. In reality you own experience tells you that most of the artifacts were blackmailed out of the hands of those who found them. Septi the Crocodile is overseeing the inventory of these items, and tells you to her dismay "There simply isn't enough money in Wati right now to sell even what we have, soon the merchants will start paying less for these things. I would advise you to sell what you can quickly, before the merchants run out of money. I have sent word out to the richest collectors in Osirion that we will have an auction to try and get full price for these artifacts. I will send word of the ancient records you possess, I believe I know a few collectors who would be looking to buy. The auction won't be for at least a week however, so it may be best to hold onto those."

You are able to track down a few homes for sale. In Bargetown, you can talk a man out of his barge for about 10gp, though a barge is little more than a floating raft with a lean-to at one end and provides no security. In Asp there are a couple actual homes for rent, a small one bedroom cottage with a kitchen and living area close to the Midwife runs 100gp a month, including furnishings. While a nicer home closer to the Morning Sun would run 500gp a month, it includes 3 bedrooms, furnishings and an indoor well.

Other Business: Sol believes his schedule is now more conducive to his not falling asleep during sessions and will be joining us. Vintage is also working on a character sheet and can join us as soon as he likes. Given how rough the first tomb was, perhaps 6 is a better number to adventure with, and we will play so long as 4 show up.

First crack at character sheet. Couple of Qs:
-> What dice for HP? (update: 21hp)
-> Suggestions for good equipment loadout? I'm not as familiar with all the gear so I'd probably make bad choices
-> Anything else I derped?

I'll buy the dagger from the half-drunk shopkeeper, and carry on. If he decides not to sell it to me then I will make my way back to the rest of the group.

I'll inform them of this Getwahb fellow.

I would recommend a medium armor (scale or hide is probably all you can afford for now) as heavy armor is punished later if you have to go into the desert. Going two-handed weapon or 1 handed + shield is your choice (more damage vs. more armor). Currently I think there is a masterwork khopesh that nobody has claimed which is 1 handed 1d8 crit range is 19-20*2 and has a natural trip. Double axe is a good two handed as its 1d12.
you also get two traits http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/advanced/advancedNewRules.html#traits that page has them, there are also traits in the players campaign book (see my first post for the link) the traits have to be from seperate groups. If you take a campaign trait you get exotic weapon khopesh as a proficiency. You will probably want some things from the goods and services list here http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/coreRulebook/equipment.html such as a backpack and a waterskin, or other incidentals that may come in handy.

Could someone PM me the player guide? I don't want yet another stupid mandatory registration account somewhere.

that page is completely blank other than the table of contents for me
