Hawken Open Beta 12/12

so was playing this for a bit my first match was 7/2/4 on ctf mode and idk if its just me but everyone else playing seemed to be rather slow/easy to kill prob as i love games like this but id say its an epic game and go get it :3

I played a round of TDM last night, it was enjoyable but I wonder how much time has to be put into the game to get unlocks and (upon full release) why kind of price tags are we looking at for paid content + will the paid content be cosmetic or pay to win? Regarding everything being slow, it kind of is, unless you are dashing about (mastering the sideways dash seems to be key to this game), but it kind of makes since since you are a lumbering robot of sorts.

so far from what i have seen its like in a lot of other games save up and play matches to earn the content or wave your fat wallet and get all content at level 1 as for being slow well no one looks at the map it seems so i get the advantage of sneaking up on them time after time and they dont check the screen to see where im coming from so they take ages to find me and by then they die :p

Anyone know how the hosting works? Is it a Peer to peer thing, or is everything hosted by "official" Hawken servers?

The map is super important to doing well imo. I think it would be really sweet to have a group on the same team, power in numbers does make a huge difference for focus fire, but (in the little time I logged) I did not see anyway to make a "party" but I may have missed it or it may be a feature not available in the open beta.

from what i have seen its similar to the way steam hosts their things for certain games hawken runs the servers but people connect to each other after the server sorts out connecting everyone together if it makes any sense if not here

step 1 people send request to join game to server
step 2 server grabs a bunch of people and tries to sort them out by level/skill
step 3 server connects everyone together and tells clients who to connect to
step 4 clients connect to each other via the already open connection and play the game together
step 5 server keeps track of progress and makes sure that people dont lag around and jump from place to place

Ah, good to know. I think this is something I could seriously play on a regular basis, more so if I have a "squad" to run with. Be really cool if, down the line, they added the option for custom logos to plaster on your mechs (I know there is some sort of clan feature planned).

from what i have seen they are going to allow full customization of your mech as in parts paint jobs and such atleast from what i read anyway and same here if i could get a group of friends and work together on say tdm or siege it would be epic or even ctf

Did they release any info about how long the open beta is going for/when they are aiming for a full release? I have not been following the game very well.

idk il look it up but apparently the friends list already works you just have to play a game or 2-3 before its enabled

I'll have to play a few more games tonight and see if that opens up for me. FYI in game name, same as usual.
