Good new phones.

I want to know what kind of phone is good and why. *I am getting a new one soon*

Obvies from Android: Samsung S4 (not yet released, S3 is just fine) or the HTC One (seems to be cool).
Galaxy phones are pretty top of the line, they have great features and are reliable. Battery life could be better, but Samsung offers a larger battery (mAh) in the same space (no ugly battery extenders). HTC One is HTC's new device which is kinda nice looking, and has similar features to SGSIV. HTC was once the leader in Android phones, but has since been seconded by Samsung (#1) - either way, they know their stuff and make great phones.
With all android phones: root and custom rom ASAP. Pay for the hardware, not the bloat and shit interfaces they shove down your throat. (this is just my opinion; see: Cyanogen Mod or AKOP).

I love www.phonearena.com. They usually have detailed reviews on each device.

Areben is right. Samsung and HTC make really nice phones. The top few contenders usually come down to preference. For example, the Samsung Galaxy III and HTC Droid DNA were my top 2 choices. The Galaxy has expandable memory, but the DNA got better reception reviews indoors. Plus it's longer and skinner, vs the Galaxy which is a little more square. I could always get an external USB card reader to expand my memory if I really needed it, so I went with the DNA.

Add a custom ROM to it, and you get amazing battery life, better customization features (like hold "Home" button for about 2 seconds when the screen is locked to turn on the flashlight and again to turn it off), and you can get rid of all the bloatware that comes on the phone, like Amazon Kindle store or Twitter app built in. I never use Twitter.

I would like a removable battery, even if you don't want to get a bigger battery just for the fact that if the battery stops holding a charge you can replace it instead of opening the whole phone. On my 1st smartphone I got a fat battery, but with this new one the battery life is great out the box, and with a battery saving ROM that let's you do advanced features like set the CPU speed to minimum when the phone is locked you get even more juice in 1 charge.

Pretty much what areben said, for android side Samsung has invested heavily into their own integrated android apps you won't find on htc/motorola. Like the air gesture application that comes with the S4, it is sorta like a Xbox Kinect where it can recognize hand movements in the air to do commands for you while you drive. There is a lot more unique apps you can probably do a google search and find out about

Plus the S4 coming out has a much higher res camera if that is something you are into. Generally speaking Samsung pushes out patches a lot faster compared to HTC/moto, not sure on LG I haven't had one of their phones.

See, that's the beauty of Android. There's apps for everything. You don't have to have a Galaxy phone to use that feature.

Ah cool I wasn't aware there was air gesture apps, they were talking about how it was a new technology in their camera to pick up finger movement in the air so you didn't have to press on the screen. I knew there was a bunch of touch gesture apps that have been available for years.
