Gender Roles in Gaming, I don't get it?

Ever since Anita Sarkeesian came out with her Tropes VS. Women videos this issue seems to have blown up across the web on gaming news sites. But honestly the people debating this issue just seem like a pretty small fraction of the gaming community. Honestly I don't much care about the gender of the protagonist of the game I play as long as it's well made and the story is compelling, I get that the majority of them are male and that it'd be nice to see more females leads. But unless you're going to go write/develop/and publish a game yourself what right to do have to bash other people creative exploits.

Anyway I don't get it, as long as the game is good and the story well written whats the problem?

How do you guys feel?

I personally could care less as long as the story piques my interest.

A good story is all that matters in the end to me boy or girl lead who cares it is about the game not about the genders. It also comes down to who made it and how they see a hero, for example if they like a Greek hero like Hercules the story writer is more likely to make the lead a male with super strength. It comes down to experiences and for someone to say that is wrong is silly to me. It is not right to say someones point of view is bad just because it is not yours. *as long as it is in reason.*

I dunno...I mean Tomb Raider was amazing because third person. I get to see hot ass while playing the whole game. Male roles don't do that for me. I agree, more female roles needed.

Getting slightly serious, I honestly don't care if I'm male or female. Story is good, it's fine. People just want attention so they are bitching about anything.

It's too bad not everyone has heard that Anita Sarkeesian took off with a couple hundred grand of kickstarter money and is a huge attention whoring scammer.

Video games are misogynistic and sexually biased because *more guys play games than girls.* Tits sell games. Sorry, ultra-feminist "gamer gurls."

There's also probably a high percentage of "female gamers" that are bitching about this crap. Silly little girls posing as gamers for whatever reason.

Games are a creative expression. Forcing a character to be a specific gender because we need more representation of that gender destroys the creativity and ruins the purpose of someone telling a story the way they wanted it told. Anyone bitching about it is doing just that, bitching. They can make their own game the way they want.

Does everyone complain that the heroes of their favorite games aren't just like them? How many of you guys are buff like any of your favorite game characters? It's just a game.
