Upgrade or new pc?

Sir "Let's Play"
Been awhile VF4! Lots of changes happening.

So, here's a fun question. With my tax return I'll have a good amount to either upgrade my current pc (which is old, the one you guys helped me build) OR...build a new pc for under 600. My choices:

Upgrade PC by getting this: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod...=1&cm_re=AMD_Processor-_-19-113-284-_-Product

And getting a 1050ti.

Or, find youtube videos or sites that build you a pc from scratch and aim for a PC that'll be better than mine. I honestly don't know which to do. If I do a new pc, I'll probably be giving my old one away.

In general PCs haven't made much progress in terms of speed performance (Raw GHz) the last few years; if on a budget an upgrade isn't as impractical as it was a while ago where replacing the mainboard to get a newer CPU socket and memory would have given you more bang for buck.

These days the performance gains generally come from more memory, SSDs, and more cores in the CPU. So if you can make reasonable additions to what you already have there, you can likely save some cash and get pretty good results vs ditching everything and starting fresh.

And then save the difference for down the road when an actual replacement is much more of a difference.

I feel like upgrading past the two things I found (the cpu and gpu) would require me just upgrading the rest of the PC. So it seems practical to just buy everything new.

But I'm happy to save money if I only need to really buy a few parts that work together.
