• Please DO NOT post in a ban contest thread unless you are:
    1. The person banned or posting a ban request.
    2. Senior Staff.
This is necessary to keep threads on-topic and uncluttered. Thank you.

If you don't know why you were banned, you probably broke one of our server rules. Most bans are temporary except in the case of gross violations or repeated infractions.

[Resolved] TF2C Permanent Ban Appeal

Time of Ban: 22:22
Date of Ban: 06-04-21

Reason for Ban: Inappropriate Language

Hi. I am making this thread to contest a permanent ban that I received yesterday at 10:22 PM for "inappropriate language." I do not remember saying anything inappropriate based on the Vault F4 rules, in fact I wasn't even playing TF2C last night at 10:22 PM because I wasn't home. No additional comments were made on my ban page (https://tinyurl.com/ywc28ta6) so I'm not sure what I said was considered inappropriate in the first place. I tried contacting the admin who banned me (https://steamcommunity.com/id/fvmilivr) but he has me blocked on Steam, so I can't ask what I said was inappropriate. I believe the admin who initiated the ban has a personal problem with me because I remember in one game I spoke on my microphone and he told me to shut up and that he "didn't want to hear from me." I'd be happy if I could get a response ASAP because I'm honestly confused as to why I was perma-banned and I genuinely enjoy playing TF2C and playing with the community. Thank you.

Your ban contest has been received and will be reviewed. I'll let you know my findings within 24-48h.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, some other more urgent stuff has come up that has prevented me from completing my analysis yet.

However, in a preliminary statement I can outline that the ban was the result of a staff member reviewing community complaints and in-game reports. You were confirmed to have been using unacceptable terms for homosexuals and Black people in voice chat, triggering the ban.

I'll follow up with more details and a final decision/ruling once I finish my review.

(Edit: Heh, I was actually just drafting a reply when your message came in. )

So I finally had some time to finish looking at this. It's been a hectic few days so please accept my apologies for that.

Now, to the matter at hand, here are my thoughts on the situation:

It would appear you have two prior infractions on record, at least one of which is also for inappropriate language. We have a diverse community of both staff and players, and it's our view that the use of derogatory terms has no place in our environment. There are plenty of other and more creative ways to trash talk with friends that don't resort to ethnic/religious/sexual slurs.

We're also in somewhat of a unique position where because we are hosting the official servers it is necessary to exhibit a higher set of standards for in-game conduct. Our servers will almost certainly be the initial experience people will get when they begin to play the game; Naturally we wish for that to be a fun, enjoyable one as opposed to something off-putting. I'm sure you would also like to see the popularity of this mod and its communities increase a with time. From my own perspective I'm looking forward to the point we have enough regular players to offer additional and more varied servers in our lineup, even if they are not necessarily official. There are some neat mods out there I'm sure would be nostalgic for many that have played TF2 in the past.

We generally consider folks with two prior infractions to have been made inexcusably aware of the rules; especially if these are for similar reasons, so I don't think the permanent ban was particularly out of line with our general guidelines to staff members.

That said, considering all of your infractions appear to be related to conduct either in text or voice chat, I'd be willing to consider changing the ban from an outright ban to a permanent communications block at this time, but with the warning that you are now most definitely aware of the server rules, and that any further rule violations will immediately reinstate the permanent ban.

If you have any further questions or need clarification on any of those rules, (https://www.vaultf4.com/threads/server-rules.246/) this is the time to ask.

Otherwise, please let me know you have understood the situation and agree to these terms, and I will make the change.

Sounds good to me, thanks. Just for clarification I've never (to the best of my memory) referred to any players as anything derogatory. Anything that was interpreted as derogatory was mostly done to get laughs out of other players because of how ridiculous it would sound lol, never meant any ill will by it.

While it may not have been directed at a specific player, the terms used are generally considered derogatory and harmful owing to the historical connotations and use specifically to deride and marginalize those groups. It might be laughs for you but it is most certainly not funny to those that have been subjected to them in malicious ways before.

In any case, I have made the change.
