I have not experienced any lag since the "fix" other than tiny little 1 to 2 sec ones that where most likely due to chunks loading/generating or someone doing something big or just my connection. I have yet to experience the crippling long lasting lag since you placed those loaders. Hopefully...

I had the unable to download modpack issue as well. In my case it was the the mirror that FTB launcher was using. If you still get the unable to download issue and or slow downloads try a different mirror under Options -> Advanced Options-> Download Location. Chicago 2 works well for me.
