This thing is amazing. I've been using it for over 2 months now. It is well worth the money. This is a top end model designed for long ranged detection for highway drivers.

The range is phenomenal. It has been tested up to 17 miles. In my area with quite a few hills and curves I have regularly picked up cops 3-5 miles ahead. The bar and sound level quickly tell you the signal strength. In city areas with lots of bends and obstacles I have consistently picked up signals from cops sitting near gas stations and around corners where you would not see him until it's too late.

The sound in unobtrusive. Some detectors have annoyingly high pitch alarms. This one quietly tells you the band it has detected first, then gives off an alarm for a couple seconds before quieting down. You can turn this feature off, but it will definitely save your nerves. The pop alarm is loud and sounds like someone is flatlining so you know to hit the brakes!

There is a rear sensor to pick up signals coming from behind you. Sometimes I sit in traffic and don't think to look behind me. It goes off, I look around, and there's a cop behind me. (He's probably admiring my bumper stickers)

There is an AutoNoX feature to eliminate false alarms for city driving. I recommend keeping it off. If the detector is going off that means it's working. If it doesn't it may be malfunctioning and you not know it.

Extras:
Safety Warning System for highway informational messages.
Optional GPS and social service attachments. The social service will let you connect with other radar detectors and share info nearby.

Final verdict:
Get it. It's steep at $500. But a speeding ticket can cost around $150-$200. Cheaper ones have issues with range and constant false alerts.

Or just don't speed.

OR.... and here's the crazy part... Wait for it. Wait.

Don't go over the speed limit and you won't need one of these.

Don't break the law in the first place and you wont' need to spend money to help you get away with breaking said law.
Translated that for everyone.

TBH though.. unless you're speeding a significant amount over the speed limit.. you're not going to get where you were headed all that much faster... on top of that any accident you get into will be more serious than if you were going the speed limit _and_ you use more gas to get there.
