The Snow's of Summer

Statboy

Resident Cueball
This adventure starts in the town of Heldren in Taldor, on the southern border close to Qadira. Below is the campaign hook, though each of you will be given some specific gossip you heard that will take you to the town of Heldren. Make sure your backstory includes why you are in the country of Taldor at the start of the campaign.

The sleepy village of Heldren has rarely seen so much excitement or concern. Hunters from the nearby Border Wood speak of unnaturally cold weather at the height of summer that descended on the forest just days ago. Heavy snow followed, and those who returned spoke of an uneasy presence in the woods, as well as new, dangerous predators. No one knows what this event means, but the town's soothsayer, Old Mother Theodora, claims dark times lie ahead. As if in proof of that dire prophecy, a badly wounded mercenary arrived in town yesterday, claiming to be a bodyguard of Lady Argentea Malassene. He told the village council that the noblewoman's escort came under attack by bandits and strange, wintry creatures near the edge of the Border Wood. He alone escaped, and Lady Argentea was dragged away into the forest. Now the towns folk cast fearful eyes toward the snowy forest, worried what else might emerge to threaten their peaceful village.

1st session didn't go quite as smoothly as I like. So i'll be working on trimming some things up on my end to be a little quicker. I'm definitely disabling Dynamic Lighting that slowed my PC down considerably and had me sitting and waiting on character sheets to load.

LJ brought up something that would help me as well. Before next session can everybody go onto their sheet and add an Attribute, title the attribute Cold, and make it your Fort Save + all Fort Save modifiers to resist nonlethal damage from Cold. That way I'm not trying to calculate everyone's additions in my head separately when I roll Fort saves. Attributes in a separate tab from your Character Sheet, titles Attributes & Abilities.

Some interesting IRL info. The name Baba Yaga, is derived from the same word that Bogeyman comes from, "Bogge/Bugge" which means Hobgoblin. The word then became the German "Boggelman", before becoming Bogeyman in English. Baba Yaga is the literal Russian bogeyman.
