Just a quick poll to see what you folks would like to see me work on next, now that I've got some time to actually do so, and proper internet most of the time.

Vote above, or if you have other suggestions, post below. :)

Honestly, I'd like to see us try to populate the servers we have and once we have an established base move from there. With trying to keep the servers populated, maybe have an event every night or so? Just my thoughts.

That's on the table as well, Kraken will be coming in as our new EC shortly and will be in charge of that aspect of things :)

Expansion from an established crowd is a little different with new types of servers vs more of the same gameserver; what we're trying to do there is attract the group that doesn't overlap with the existing gameservers we have. In any case... valid point, duly noted.

Ill reinstall CS:GO and help with the setup if that gets going. Don't particularly care for the other options

And I know that is a sore spot for you Vintage. So I would understand if you don't want to touch it. But if we do decide to bring it back, I will be there to help as much as I can with testing

CSGO is something I've had planned for a bit as evidenced by the offline server in the list. It's a lot easier now with the new panel and the support for it; previously it was also hindered by the additional overhead required to manage it. It's not a major sore point for me because last time around I didn't pour a lot of effort into it once I saw the community wasn't interested/being helpful in trying to get things working properly. (and we needed the resources it was taking up)

At this point what I need to do is take the stock one I have installed, attach sourcebans and hlstats; and go from there, working with someone that knows what's popular/fun/typical for such a server. We have the resources, we can let it develop in time, and if it turns into something good, awesome. :)

I think our overall server strategy should be similar to the Vault 404 strategy. New and different maps. All these games have been our for years and we aren't established enough to create a server that is stock or B2B and expect it to overpower the ones that have been around for a long time with a huge pool of regulars. We have to provide the niche server that is crazy and fun and different.

Do you guys actually care about TF2 anymore? I made events and rarely got support from staff or established community members. Everyone that joined my event was pretty much PUBs. Every day there were 10+ people in Teamspeak and nobody playing TF2. At one time you had a considerable amount of staff that didn't even play on the servers. They were just there for emotional support I guess? Every time we play League I try to get people to join us in Teamspeak to start a community and I get hit with "OMG Why are you inviting randoms in here?" You have 2 Steam Groups, 1 with about 50,000 and 1 with about 150,000 members. There are never any announcements for the one with 3 times as many members. You have 2 VOIP programs why? Cut 1 off and put everyone together. Right now it feels like VF4 is more focused on getting a variety of servers and not on establishing a community.

    TLDR
Work on getting a community before you work on 30 different servers that are all empty

We've been having 10-20+ people in mumble every night playing TF2 for like 2 months now. We use Mumble for TF2 because that's what TF2 players use, as it has the lowest latency of any of the voice chat clients. You're an asshat. That's why we question you inviting randoms in when playing LoL. It's not that you do it, it's how you go about doing it. That's why we question you. You are a poor representative of the community. Logging into LoL and saying "hurr durr we're in teamspeak durr durr don't join if you're a liberal or a hippie durp durp duurrrrrr durrr I'm a hillbilly" isn't going to get anyone in. You aren't helping.

Lonesome... If I recall your idea of "having events" was you would make an announcement and then you would go and play League. Since we have had the Vault 404 server, EVERY time we have had an ACTUAL event, the server had 18+ people in it within 5-10 minutes. You NEVER ONCE would actually participate in your so called events that you hosted.

TL;DR You didn't do your job, all you did was spam announcements but never actually participated in your own events.

As for the remark about you inviting people to the Teamspeak Server. We criticized you because all you do is spam an invite (I am sensing a common thread here) and then when the odd chance that someone did come in, you insulted them and berrated them. You almost never established a meaningful connection with someone, build some rapport and then convinced them to join a community. You would only just spam invites and had a shitty return on your investment of spam.

TL;DR Your spam doesn't work, stop spamming.

As for the building a community, In case you haven't noticed. This community has a core group of people who are active, and not much else. The only way for us to build a community is to attract people to joining our community. One way of doing that is to create and environment and servers that will attract meaningful members. Again take a look at our Vault 404 Server. It is a niche server with brand new and crazy maps for TF2. We are constantly filling itup. Or take a look at our competitive teams. Are those people going to be playing in the ESEA Invite league? Probably not. But we have definitely attracted people to come to our community and to stay.

TL;DR to have a community you have to create something that people will want to join.

TL;DR;Overall As reechard said, you are a piss poor representation of the community. You did nothing for us as the Events Coordinator in the past. And all you do is bitch and complain when we are trying to make a meaningful impact on our community. If you don't like the direction we are headed or the steps to get there, then get out now and don't waste our time and our patience

i sorta agree with the person about filling up the servers we have already. To balls with minecraft because no one plays it now. Unless you go with a Tekkit or FTB but balls to that cuz of the work involved for you. Terraria is in the same pool unless you reset the world every month and schedule it so people know that anything in their chests will go away so they can grab shit they wanna keep to prepare for reset. CS:Go I'd consider but I already have BF4 so..

IF i were to suggest anything, i would say perhaps Starbound or Rust.

CS:GO and BF4 are in very different ball parks. Especially since we can actually HAVE a CS:GO server. Starbound won't last, and I highly doubt Rust will.

I'm all for CS:GO. I was actually going to add my own game, but it's less known than CS:GO sadly, so I doubt anyone really has it.

To add to the Starbound one, just remember TERRARIA. We had how many of us playing that? And that lasted...a week? Some of us were very into the game but the game basically died out.

Rust certainly isn't going to happen any time soon. You can only rent a server from a select few providers. I don't know about starbound.

As for filling up what we have already.. that is a separate "project" that people are working on. So long as we don't have more server types than can be easily maintained... there's not much harm in adding another new one, especially if community members (e.g. English) are interested in donating time to help out. Adding another of the same is a different story though; that is when we'd need to fill what we have first.

Yeah. I would rather see us branch out and have maybe 1 or two servers in 3 different games than 6 servers in one game and we can only reliably fill two of them...

Murder Mod (GMOD) is big right now, I'm not sure of the system requirements for it, it might fall into the same trap as MVM, were a full server doesn't wield enough people to make it worth the time. Murder Mod servers that cap at 8 players are always full (ie there is a demand for them), and most servers have a shop that reward frequent players/donators.

Aye. More of an issue when we're cramped for resources, right now we can afford to leave things up in the chance they'll take off, but if we find something we like we can always kill something unpopular if necessary.

Hmm, interesting. One of the main reasons MVM is a problem is that it hogs the resources of a 32 man server because of the bots... if murder mod only takes the cpu usage of an 8 person gmod server, it's fine. Does it need bots or AI?

The other thing is how is the turnover? - are people constantly coming and going? if so it might well be doable since the other thing with MVM is that it's usually the same six people in the server for an hour plus.

No bots only real people, runs on CS maps with a few add-ons. As for turnover the average game lasts less than 5 minutes, so much higher turnover than MVM, but as always with a small server having one a-hole will create high turnover, while having 8 people who are fun will lessen turnover. It is literally a more fun smaller version of TTT, it addresses the issues that makes TTT bad (RDMing mainly) so the murder community is much more friendly and fun.

Yeah I like how this looks, if we could get a decent rotation of smaller CS maps we could probably run 3 of these in the space where one normal TF2 server runs, looks like a pretty small footprint. Can you think of anything we could do to make our server different than everyone else's to give people a reason to come back?

Having a size 8 server, most of the larger server communities make their servers a less popular size 20-32 (in order to advertise to more people) very few communities make the more popular smaller servers, right now it is extremely difficult to join a max 8 player server during the peak evening hours. Most of those smaller servers are owned and operated by an individual and don't tend to run as smoothly or optimally as a vintage server. If we start running multiple gmod's having a universal shop would help all of them.

    :D

Duly noted, I will investigate this gamemode further when I get some time :) CSGO may still come first depending on the relative amounts of work, but sounds like it would be fun and a great addition to the community.
