My mic doesn't transmit in your 24/7 Dustbowl server. I was wondering if this is a known issue or if I was gaggged/muted.

My mic will show that it's on when I hit my push to talk button, but it doesn't transmit my voice. My mic does work in other servers.

Not sure what information you need to look into the issue. Heres a link to my profile if that helps. http://steamcommunity.com/id/Slovy

Please let me know if you need anything from me. Thanks!

Have you tried using the "Test Microphone" feature (the in-game one, not steam) WHILE connected to the server? Cause if that works then you could be gagged, if it doesn't work I have no idea what the problem could be.

Yeah I have tries testing. Testing it doesn't register sound input. But then I disconnect from your server and join any other server and it works perfectly. It's so weird.

    Interesting issue.

oh i had an error similar to this, if your using windows 7 right click on the speakers and go to recording devices, then make sure the correct mic is the default communication device and default device. let me know if that doesn't work for you

So, I launch the game, go to options and test mic. It's working. I join your server, and it stops working and the test mic option doesn't work either anymore.

I disconnect and check test mic in the options, still not working. Join another server, mic works again, test mic works again.

Windows 7 isn't the issue either because my mic works in every server except VaultF4 servers. I have tried a couple of servers now.

    I am so confused.

The only thing I can think of that might be causing the problem is having "voice_inputfromfile" set to 1. The setting is ignored on most tf2 servers but on servers like VaultF4 where moderate hldj micspam is permitted, having it set to 1 would disable your mic input and instead read from a .wav file in your tf2 install folder. The default wav file is basically a really faint whirling noise, and with voice_inputfromfile 1 if you hold down your mic button it will just play this sound over and over until you release the voice button. I was in-game with you 30 minutes ago and that's what I heard each time you tried to speak. Set voice_inputfromfile to 0 to fix the problem.

My voice_inputfromfile was already at zero :( I guess I will just have to live in silence :p

Thanks for all the help guys.

Hm, the only thing that comes to mind is that we have steam voice disabled/set to the old codec in order to allow for the HLDJ in the first place - the new codec doesn't allow this. Specifically:
    Code:
    sv_use_steam_voice 0
    sv_voicecodec vaudio_speex
    sv_voiceenable "1"
Given people use their mics without issue on our servers, it sounds a lot like a funky config on your end.
Have you had any success with your mic on our other servers and/or tried removing your config and restoring the defaultTF2 config?
Are you perchance running TF2 on linux?

We generally don't issue permanent mutes, and there is nothing in our logs that show one was issued for your steam ID.

Just on a hunch I plugged my old broken headset in, which has the mic that still works on it. And it works perfectly in your servers.

So I guess it is the current mic I am using being funky with some settings. I'm not entirely sure.

Thanks for all the help guys!

And in other news, I used a different USB port and my mic that wasn't working, now works.

I get some of the weirdest computer issues ever. Such luck. Oh well, all is well now.

    Thanks for the welcome :p
