• Please DO NOT post in a ban contest thread unless you are:
    1. The person banned or posting a ban request.
    2. Senior Staff.
This is necessary to keep threads on-topic and uncluttered. Thank you.

If you don't know why you were banned, you probably broke one of our server rules. Most bans are temporary except in the case of gross violations or repeated infractions.

[Resolved] Permaban appeal

Heated(G)

Not a Noob
In-Game name: Heated(G)
Time of Ban: 17:09
Date of Ban: 03-30-22
Steam ID: STEAM_0:1:500835937
Reason for Ban: Inappropriate Spray
Additional Comments: I was told to do an appeal thread for my ban because from what I know, a 3rd infraction should not have resulted in a permanent ban and yet it did.
I understand the previous bans and the rules against these sprays as I only wanted to share and not cause harm.
As for the night before the ban, I was told by others in the same server at the time, that it was justifiably okay to show my sprays since according to them, the rules only depended on what admin was in the server.
I did not know then that inappropriate sprays were, *by all accounts*, against server rules.

I've reviewed the details of this ban and my findings are below.

As an FYI, effectively this is not your third infraction, it is your fourth. You have both a prior 3 day (7-21-21) and 1 week (03-12-22) ban for sprays that break the rules, in addition to numerous blocked sprays. It's clearly outlined in said server rules that spray bans are considered to start at the second infraction (because the first punishment is blocking the spray(s) in question) and that we may skip the courtesy warning if a player has left the server at the time we become aware of the problem. It's also plainly spelled out that overly sexualized images or pornographic sprays are against our rules. I can see you attempted to join the servers multiple times during these previous bans, so in my books pleading ignorance of the rules is no longer an excuse. The first thing any reasonable person would do on finding out they were banned somewhere is figure out why and how to prevent it happening again.

In addition, the server rules are not a democracy; it's not the place of other players to decide what is or isn't allowable if it is explicitly disallowed, nor does it matter whether staff are present or not, everyone is expected to abide by them and there will be repercussions if we find out otherwise. The rules are also prominently featured in the MOTD when connecting to the servers, (and shown on-screen in cases where we can place players in timeout or issue warnings in-game) so any lack of familiarity with them is not due to lack of effort on our part, it's willful ignorance once an infraction has occurred.

That said, I do agree with you on the technical point that permanent is a bit large of an escalation at this stage, so I am going to reduce your ban to 3 weeks, which is inline with our policies for a fourth offense. However, I will caution you that any further infractions on your part will be considered a fifth offense, which is considered grounds for a permanent ban. So if you have questions or require clarification on any of the rules, now would be the time to ask, and not when it is too late.

Thank you for reaching out and fixing this up. I will reconsider my spray uses and find appropriate ones to use in the future.
